I know most here won't watch this but I thought I'd post this story. I like reality shows so I watched the supertrailer. I don't know if I'll be watching the series. They have to "live like the rest of us" cook, clean, live on a budget and work for their money. It starts June 9th.

Gastonia beauty queen cast in VH1 reality show (http://www.gastongazette.com/news/queen-47643-beauty-reality.html - broken link)

Quote:
Courtnee Mason will be one of “nine spoiled princesses” who will leave their pamper lives for an eight-week rehabilitation program, according to the VH1 website.....

Mason, 25, grew up in Gastonia and graduated from N.C. Agricultural & Technical State University with a major in professional theater.

She was crowned Miss Black Gastonia N.C. USA in 2009 and has taken home several pageant titles.

Mason aspires to be a model and actress. So far she's been on TV, in print ads and on the runway, she told The Gazette in a previous interview.
VH1 -You're Cut Off

Quote:
COURTNEE
Courtnee is a beauty queen from Charlotte, North Carolina. Popular around town, this self-proclaimed "it-girl" is a socialite. Courtnee says she is not a gold-digger, but insists she wouldn't marry a man who couldn't give her anything less than the finer things in life (i.e., jewelry, cars, clothes, and regular trips around the world). Her parents are tired of being treated like an ATM. They have traditional values and don't understand how their "little princess" turned into such a demanding diva. Her father is cutting her off because he believes Courtnee is a talented young woman who should finally put her savvy people skills to good use.

That would be interesting. There is some big money in South Gastonia.

Spending daddy's money is nothing new and certainly nothing to be proud of . . . and just cause folks have disposable income, it doesn't mean they have any kind of background/breeding. These gals seem to have been raised with no one bothering to teach them any responsibility at all. And they seem totally self-involved, which is nothing to be proud of, either.

Princesses? I don't think so. Entitled shallow brats would be a better description, IMHO.

My first thought was how hilarious the self-proclaimed socialite was - being from Gastonia. LOL! Even the people from big cities who behave this way are ridiculous, but when they are from nowhereville it's even more entertaining. Maybe she'll discover some self-worth on the show, but I doubt it.

I agree Ani! Plus I guess I'm somewhat of a feminist and I find the helpless "I don't know how to do anything" card very annoying! I love how the parents say they don't know how she got that way. If she's 25 I bet she's been acting that way for at least 20 years.

Well you notice that VH1 says she's from Charlotte because no one is going to know Gastonia.

As southbound says there is big money in Gastonia. Lots of old money and some nouveau riche as well. There are still debutante balls and high society parties in Gastonia. I too doubt she'll really learn anything. She's aspiring model and actress so she'd probably hoping this will launch her career.

ETA: It's not masterpiece theater but I do give her props for landing a national show. I wonder how long the casting process was?

OK I get it that most people think that Gastonia is full of thugs living in shacks, but Ani & NCgirl know what I have learned. There is big money in Gastonia. There is big money in City of Kings Mountain too. Some of these people could buy & sell most of the folks in Ballantyne if they wanted to, but their families have been in these smaller places for generations & they don't care to go to Charlotte, unless they're going to spend money shopping or in a restaurant, a show, or whatever.

I don't know anything about this girl or if her parents are new money or old money.

Doubtful...the only thing these stupid shows do is promote the concept that people can be both famous and utterly worthless at the same time. This is the same culture that made empty-headed bimbos like Paris Hilton important in some peoples' eyes.
