We're under contract now to buy a house in Charlottesville that comes with a fully stocked Koi Pond. We're not interested in maintaining the pond and I'm fairly confident my dog will likely kill or at least attempt to kill the Koi. Would like to give them away, along with any of the pond mechanisms. Does anyone know of a Koi fish rescue group or what I should do with the Koi?

If you offer them on Craigslist or Freecycle, I'm sure someone would be more than happy to take it all off your hands. You could also contact the Charlottesville ASPCA to see if they have any suggestions.

Best of luck!

Can you put in the contract that the owner must get rid of it for you? Perhaps they may want them if you dont.

There is a Mid-Atlantic Koi Club. You may want to e-mail them.
Perhaps they could help you place the Koi.

If you look at this group's magazine which is online, you will see that these are people who are serious about Koi.

Put them on Craigslist and sell them. You never know. Someone might want to buy them.

Thanks all for the good info. We're hesitant to list them on Craigslist 'cause we don't want lots of calls/emails from people who may not be knowledgeable about Koi. Last thing we want is these fish to die. So per TNLilly's suggestion, I emailed the Mid-Atlantic Koi people (thanks for the tip about them). Hopefully, they'll have a suggestion.

Blwhatman, the OP put this thread up over a year ago. I suspect the Koi found a home.

Good luck getting some Koi for your pond!

Yes, indeed. We found someone who came over and measured the pond and rebuilt it exactly as it had been so as to not confuse the Koi. There ended up being there were about 50 of them. He also took the lilypads, frogs, everything... I think they're doing well...
