Spotted this one while browsing on CL earlier this morning....body seems to be in good shape with no rust (kinda hard to find living here in the Midwest) but would need to inspect in person, 94K original miles and apparently the seller trying to sell it for his dad. Asking $750 for it. Better than the $2,500 Buick I looked at before.

From what I read so far these cars also seem to have the 307 Olds motor (you would think they would put in something with more power). I think it would be really cool to take one of these on a road trip.

Any thoughts regarding this particular car? Pros and Cons (besides the motor)?

They have the Olds 307 because it was the only old-style V8 available to GM during the time other than the Chevrolet V8s. The contemporary Cadillac HT 4100/4500 could barely move the gigantic Brougham. The Oldsmobile V8 is carbureted and makes about 145 HP stock, meaning a slow car. Pretty reliable I guess since the same body style was used for many years, till 1992.

I don't know about your area, but here in TX these cars are rising in value if in good condition, and cost more than $750.

A co-worker owned a similar 1986 model with a Chevrolet motor. He made mention of electrical problems with the window regulators and power side mirrors.

I thought the last ones had the 5.0 or the optional 5.7 in the 1991. The ride leveling system had some gremlins when it got old but a solid rear wheel drive platform that can go a few hundred thousand miles.

There are two on ebay right now for less than $750 (113K miles and 72K miles) so that might be the market on those old Caddys

Should be a much better deal than the Buick. As far as the full size GMs of that generation, go with the 77-79s or 87-91 Cadillacs. I especially like the 77 and 78 Buick.

If it's in good shape I would say it's a steal if you're into that kind of car. I have driven these and the 307 is adequate in the sense that it will get you through traffic just fine but I have a heavy foot and its just not enough for me. Personally I would rather have the 305 TBI and obviously the '91 with the 350 TBI is the crown jewel of the box style Broughams of this era... you won't find one of those cheap if you can find one at all.

The platform of the car is very solid, its a classic design that was built for comfort and durability above all else. The bodies are well built, everything is quiet and smooth and you get a high degree of reliability. Personally, I would skip the box style and go right for the LT1/4L60E equipped 94-96 Broughams.

You can't go wrong with a Bro-Ham. The 307 was used in these sleds due to it's low-end torque, and while you're not going to win any drag races with one under the hood they are pretty much bulletproof.

Much better deal than the Buick. Basically same car, just a little bigger in length and wheelbase.
