I just got a really nice 1991 Buick Park Avenue, it's only got 80k
on it and it's almost like new.
When I got it Wednesday it hadn't been driven in a while and needed an oil change. There's a light on the dash that said "change oil soon".
I had the oil changed the next day, but the oil change warning still comes on whenever you start it up. after a few minutes it will go out, is this normal? Is there a way to reset to warning light?
If you have the owner's manual, IIRC the reset procedure is in there. I *think* that you hold down the trip odometer reset button for a few seconds - not certain though.
Try turning the key on and then pressing the accelerator to the floor three times. If the light flashes that means it's reset. I know that's how it worked for the '98 models, not sure if '91's were the same.
As others have posted, there are many different ways to reset that alert function (most are fairly logical but some are downright ridiculous) . . . if not addressed in the Owner's Manual then try your Local Buick Dealer Service Department.
No, on MOST GM vehicles, the pump the gas pedal 3 times thing works, EXCEPT Buicks. There is a button sometimes located in the glovebox, sometimes located under the dash, behind the glove box. You press it in and hold it, then turn the key on and watch the light.
It will flash several times, then go out. Your light is now reset.

When "CHANGE OIL SOON" light is illuminated, find the hole in the underside of the dash on the passenger side near the door. Insert a blunt instrument into the hole and press the switch. The light will flash four times when the system is reset.
How funny... I owned a 1992 Buick Park Avenue for two years (back in 2004-2005) and didnt even know it had a "change oil soon" warning light... apparently it didnt work, because I never seen it illuminated. lol.
