By the Orange line? That is McKinley Park and while I've never lived over there, I've gotten on and off the 'el' there on more than on occasion, also, I do know some people who do live over there and they liked it just fine. If you like to fly out of midway, it is very close by.

It isn't what I'd call the trendiest part of town, it is mostly residential (which might be just what you are looking for).

Yeh, definitely not a glamorous part of town, but it's pretty safe and quiet. By Chicago standards, you can get a lot of space for your money there.

McKinley Park is great, very quiet, mostly families. The housing cost has really shot up a bunch recently, I have a friend who has a house on the 3600 Block of Damen and it has almost doubled in value in the last few years. You have McKinley Park at 37th street which is pretty amazing, the old manufacturing district (along Pershing) is starting to be renovated into offices and lofts. The Latin American food in the area (mainly Mexican, but I found a GREAT El Salvadorian place too) is awesome, you have quick access to Chinatown and Bridgeport (which is quickly becoming the new Wicker Park / artist area), the Orange line is very quick to get downtown as is I-55 at that point (the ramp to 90/94 is a mess right now due to construction but when it isnt I can get to my job in the loop in 5 minutes from the Damen entrance). You have Target right on Damen, Cermack produce for quick shopping, Jewel on Archer and 37th, Dominick's up at Ashland and Archer.

I can't say enough good things about the area, I am moving to Brighton Park (just southwest) in August and I wish I would have bought near 35th/Damen instead.

That's the exact area this thread addresses. 35th and Archer is exactly one block away from 35th and Damen.
