Simple question here:

Looking to get some long-sleeve dress shirts and ties, and would really like them fitted (I.E. I won't be tucking them in and would prefer if they weren't down to my ankles/looking like I'm wearing an army tent!)

I think I got a few that fit this description at a Kohl's back in the day, but I don't believe there's a Kohl's downtown here in Chicago...

Would any of the stores on Michigan Ave or the general Loop area have classy, affordable fitted dress shirts that won't destroy my wallet?

Thanks!

H&M has nice dress shirts if Kohls is your usual budget. There are also Banana Republic and Gap but they run higher.

H&M cuts to the European style so they should be perfect for your needs actually.

I agree with chicagojlo. H&M might be cheaper sometimes too.

I get mine made at Richard Bennett. You get exactly the style you want, they last for years and they fit like a glove. Its very much worth the price and is near Jackson and LaSalle.

For a lower-priced alternative, I shop at Joseph A. Banks on Washington and State or in the financial district.

The only Kohl's in the city is at Elston & Webster, kinda near Bucktown. Another European chain with a more fitted fit is Zara, which probably rivals the Gap on price but isn't quite so American-baggy in its styles. Topshop is rumored to have signed a lease on Michigan Avenue, so that might soon be another option.

The couture brands usually design things with a slender fit, but that's not exactly in your price range (or mine, for that matter).

I'm positive that any department store would carry something that meets your needs. Fitted shirts aren't that hard to find. Even midmarket brands like Van Heusen and Izod make them nowadays.

Marshall Fiel... ahem... Macy's, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus, Saks, etc. Some of those are pricey, but sale items often exist.

For lower priced options, you have a Nordstrom's Rack, a Filene's Basement, and a TJ Maxx all on the same block on State St. I am sure one of those would have what you need without breaking the budget. There's also a Marshall's on N. Michigan.

I have had better luck at Filene's Basement than most others and you can generally get a good quality dress short there for $29.

BTW, they also have a store around 800 N. Michigan Ave.

Really depends on the brand of shirt. H&M is a good start. Also check out Lands End Canvas, as they advertise some shirts with more tailored fit and in some cases shorter tails. They aren't really dressy, but since you are wearing them untucked anyways they should do.

I forgot about Zara, that's a good call. And Topshop coming to Chicago? Uh-oh!

Went to H&M last night. Not too bad. Pretty good fits and the prices weren't TOO horrible.

Not a very good selection, though. Maybe 12-15 color/pattern combinations total... Didn't even have the gray color I originally wanted.

Will likely try Filene's Basement and a few other shops on Michigan over the next few days. Thanks all!
