I used to love going there as a kid (20+ years ago). I heard the mall was really bad now with gangs and whatnot roaming the place. What's the true story?

I don't know about gangs roaming the place, but it's certainly not a destination as far as I know. Of course, it's been a couple years (literally, about two) since I was there. I first went there in 1995 to see "Hoop Dreams" at the theatre nearby.

I used to live in the neighborhood just south of the mall and those that live there now avoid it as much as they can, which is usually always!

Lol @ gangs roaming the mall. People say that about River Oaks too and I think it's funny.

I can just imagine a very fictional person saying "I run the west side of the lower level, b! You have your block and I have my mall!! I keep it straight up gangsta down by Carson's! 187 on mall security all day every day!!" haha

LOL @ urza
Yes there are some young people, but I never seen the gangs, some of the stores are more urban, but I have been there and it was ok, its not your old Ford City though

Is The Connection still there? I think someone got stabbed down there when it was Peacock Alley.

A group of women were murdered at Lane Bryant in Tinley Park too.

The Lane Bryant closed down. But no one wondered if Tinley was "going down the tubes" or anything..

Actually people are starting to wonder if Tinley is beginning a downward slide. Yup I used to be one of those as a kid 20+ years ago that took the bus to Ford City. There are certainly far better places to shop.

Once Weiboldt's and Montgomery Ward closed there wasn't much to pull you to Ford City.
