Can anyone tell me if there's an online resource available that gives an up-to-date list of beer gardens, patios, and the like where one can enjoy a drink and a smoke? Even better if it specifies whether heated or not for the coming winter months....

Thanks!

Hm, I don't know of any, actually. I thought they banned it in all outdoor business areas. Could be wrong though, good luck!

No. As long as the smoking section is 15 feet from a door it is legal. Most bars are not doing it though.

You can have an outdoor smoking area in Illinois. Owner of Fast Eddy's in Alton said he planned on having a beer garden. That was shortly after the bill took effect. I don't know if he's built one yet. That's down by St. Louis, though.

You could probably go to Indiana or Wisconsin. But I'm sure it would be a pain to drive out of state.

That and no table service allowed at an outdoor seating area (God this law is exquisitely stupid). I don't think it's allowed if food is served outdoors either.

I've never seen a patio out front that lets people smoke. Some bars let people smoke in the beer garden after they close it down for the season. There are some bars that do ignore the ban, but they are few and far between. They are generally places where if you are under 60 and speak English you will stick out like a sore thumb.

In general you should basically just plan to leave your drink inside and step out for a smoke.

Ahhh - I wasn't aware of the whole "no table service" requirement. It appears the law went well beyond the purported intention of limiting exposure to 2nd hand smoke and far into the "discourage smokers enough so that they crawl into a hole to die a miserable lonely death (while we continue to collect as many taxes from them as possible)"!!!!!!!!!

And let me re-iterate, I'm an ex-smoker...and a liberal Democrat...but I still don't get this law!

Sheffields -- and we had table service and had food -- so maybe they won't be doing that for long?

I've noticed lots of hookah bars around. How does that work with the smoking ban? Just curious.
