I'm not quite sure I understand your post, but if you feel as the listings are a front for a scam, then you should flag the listing.

rule of thumb: most of the ads on Craigslist are scams.

if there's some weird hyperlink, don't click on it. if the pictures look like stock pictures, be wary. if the price looks to good to be true, it probably is. and if you find a scam, just flag it and move on, don't email the scammer again and don't bother posting an irate message on CL about the scam (since rants do get flagged, even if they're legit warnings)

I wouldn't say "most".

It depends what section it is in. But I would say many in every section are scams and the like.

I heard that the entire staff of Craigslist is like 15 people -- pretty much the whole operation is scripts and automated stuff, so apparently the scammers realize that there are suckers born every minute and it is going to take a lot of minutes to trace a scam back to Nigeria so...

Report the scam, but obviously don't expect much more than the automated scripts to delete the post.

yes, it depends on the section. before they started charging in the job sections, a bunch of the jobs were "work from home" scams. seems to have cleaned up bit. and there are still ads in the Pets section offering to ship English Bulldogs and yorkies from Cameroon or somewhere.

I'd still say most of the ads are either scams or at least very questionable. CL started going downhill years ago and now I'm just very suspicious of certain ads in general

Sure, it's important to be on the lookout, but I've found my last 3 apartments on Craigslist. there are plenty of legit listings too.

Well, I was thinking specifically of the rental housing section, since that was related to the main topic of this thread. I've never gotten the impression that most of the rental housing ads were scams (I found my last two apartments on craigslist, BTW, and have been pretty happy with them).

I will say that, last time I checked (haven't done so recently) there did seem to be an abundance of "work from home" scam ads in the Jobs section.
