About (ballpark) does it take to commute to the central part of the loop from either Bucktown or Andersonville? I am assuming by bus or El. Thanks.

It depends how close to the train you are. The train ride from Bucktown (Western Blue Line) to the loop itself is about 15 minutes, but if you have to walk 15 minutes to get to the train then the commute becomes 30-35 minutes.

From Bucktown it really depends on the time of the day. 90/94 is a crapshoot most of the time. You'll probably prefer to take Ashland down to Washington (or where ever) and then shoot over. About 20 minutes on average. As mush as 35 on a cruddy day, as little as 13 in optimal conditions.

Andersonville is more reliable because LSD is pretty much always reliable to be fast and not particularly heavily traveled. I bike on Foster Beach at 6:30 pm and head up from North av and it normally takes about 12 minutes. Add another 15 to get to the heart of the loop. Probably as little as 20 minutes in off peak time.

ETA: Seems as though I've missed the point of the post yet again. By train from Damen/Western to Monroe: 15-20 minutes on the train and then walking each way. From Bryn Mawr/Berwyn: about 35-40 to State and Monroe and then walking.

I take the Red Line every day from the Berwyn stop in Andersonville to Monroe. The actual time on the train is 25-30 minutes. For example, this morning I got on the train at 8:26 and got to the Monroe stop at 8:52 (I'm kind of obsessive about knowing exactly how long my commute takes, so I tend to take note of the time of departure and arrival).

The 147 express bus would probably make the trip in similar time. But you'd only want to take that if you lived within a few blocks of Sheridan Rd. or Marine Drive.

Also check to see if Metra works for you. From Ravenswood stop to Ogilvey is about 8 minutes, from Clybourn it's about 5.
