HEY Chicago!!!

I'm coming out to your city on October 30 (Friday), leaving Sunday November 1.

My Saturday night will consist of a Tiesto concert (techno) at the Congress Theater.

1. How is the Congress Theater...big place, expensive drinks I'm assuming...?

2. We'll want to go out Friday night for sure...Usually when we come out to Chicago it's consisted of hanging around downtown and Mag Mile. But I really want to check out the Chicago nightlife...I don't feel that hanging around there really gives the true image of what the Chicago bar scene has to offer. So I come here to ask where some good bar areas are? We're 21 year olds, so we're looking for a younger crowd of course as well as the typical scene for that age.

1) Congress Theater is a pit. They've done the bare minimum renovations necessary to pass code and that's about it. It is by far the most decrepit major venue in the city. I don't know what you consider "big" but I'd estimate its capacity to be in the 2,500 range. Drinks are, of course, expensive compared to being at a bar, but they are reasonable for a concert venue.

2) If you want to check out Chicago's nightlife, just walk Southeast down Milwaukee Avenue (or take a cab or a bus) from the theater after the show and you'll be in the thick of the Bucktown nightlife area in 10 to 15 minutes.

It all depends on what type of bar scene you enjoy.

well we're not trying to go to a bar with like 30-40 year olds.

so, early 20's bar...not a lounge atmosphere...something more partyish* where you have to talk loud to communicate

maybe with some sort of dance floor (but not a straight up night club )

and of course, it'll be the night before halloween, so some place where everybody will be dressed up in costumes!!!!

Might want to try Sonotheque (Sonotheque - Noble Square - Chicago, IL) or Dark Room (Darkroom - Ukrainian Village - Chicago, IL) on Chicago Ave. You could get to either easily by taking the Milwaukee bus (for Sonotheque) or the Western bus from Armitage/Western just south of the Congress (for Dark Room).

Yes, 10-15 minutes by foot. You don't really have to walk all the way to Division. You can walk to the Milwaukee/Damen/North Avenue intersection and you'll find plenty to do right there. That's pretty much the epicenter of the near northwest side nightlife -- there's stuff to do along all three streets in that area, though Damen north of North/Milwaukee is much more busy than south.

Debonair is great if you like weird art installations that you can't see because it's so completely dark and a coed bathroom with a troll woman as an attendant.

Nice collection of sites! Have you tried looking for cheap hotels from comparison sites?
