Can you transfer from the Orange line to the Blue line?

But the elevator for the blue line stop is all the way north of Jackson, so while there's a Blue entrance right by Van Buren just a few steps from the west exit of the Library stop, (s)he'd have to walk a block and then some to catch the elevator at the Jackson stop. Probably better off transferring at Clark if (s)he's hauling luggage.

Where is your friend staying? If they're actually staying in the Loop, I'm pretty sure any of the 9 stations on the Orange Line as it goes around the Loop would easily be close enough.

If they actually need the Blue Line, they're probably staying outside the immediate Loop. In that case it might be easier for someone who doesn't know the city to just get off at Clark/Lake and follow the signs, be inside the entire time, and make the direct connection to the Blue Line in the subway.

Otherwise you can get off at Library, but once you get downstairs a person who isn't use to downtown Chicago can very very easily get turned around and have to wander a street or two to figure out where the subway entrace is to the Blue Line station. It's not RIGHT outside the Library station.

Agree with what Chicago60614 wrote. Where in the Loop are you trying to go? My guess would be (if it is in fact in the Loop) that the Google directions are your best bet. Chances are you will be walking at most 2 blocks from any Orange Line Station, and that would end up being less walking than going through the transfers to the Blue Line, taking a bunch of stairs, and then walking from the Blue Line Stop to the final desitination. The transfer would most likely take longer too.
