Act 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all {Laity} scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles {Clergy.}
Act 8:2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
Act 8:3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
Act 8:4 Therefore they {laity} that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Comments appreciated on how the laity is the preachers.

1Pe 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Shalom,
Tom

"Exclusion leads to competition; not oneness of mind and heart."

Peace be with you.

In my own experience, God has certainly put it in my heart to share His Love with others.

Whether I'm considered "laity" or "clergy" is not something I can answer. But I don't mind either way.

From your post, it sure looks like the "laity" were preaching as much as anyone else.

Peace,
brian

laity and clergy is a seperation that has been put in place by man. The "Clergy" even has some special seating at some churches.
They were all one body. we as humans have cleverly created a line between the clergy and laity. we have even made college a requirement to be a pastor. not all churches, but the majority require a silly theological degree. this is where the head gets swollen and the heart shrinks. The people even feel guilty if they call their pastor by first name. We are all Priests of God.

Is there any place where Jesus, Peter or Paul, Timothy or Titus ... were called Rev. or wore vestments?

Shalom,
Thomas

If ordination is by Ism and to sell one's own system, how does that relate to Paul's passages on division in 1 Cor.?

Paul used the term, 'dung,' to express his attitude to man made religion - the Talmud. Are we looking at the same situation in Christianity that existed in Judaism?

I've heard the expression, "Seminaries produce religious theatre operators." It is a big point with the Shack publishers on their podcast. Does their position make any sense?

Shalom,
Tom

paul and the others were called apostles. ἀποστέλλω (G649) , which means
1) a delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders
a) specifically applied to the twelve apostles of Christ
b) in a broader sense applied to other eminent Christian teachers
1) of Barnabas
2) of Timothy and Silvanus

They had no vestments, Frank viola wrote a great book that explains where all our modern practices came from. Everything from the, altar, ushers, choir, music band.... he really breaks it down and has pages of references in order to prove his point. "pagan christianity is the name of the book.

modern church titles keep getting bigger. listen to the introduction of a celebrity pastor. I could be " here is brother tony". that is not good enough for our pride. not it has become, " here is best selling author, apologetic, pastor of the largest church in the city, teacher, and theologian, my mentor. (drum roll, lights on, fireworks blow away)... pastor tony". the crowd stands and clap away. OK maybe no fireworks....yet. But the modern church, Not all, has become a circus of who can have the biggest building and ministry. We have lost our love for each other. Love is so simple that it becomes difficult through all the noise.
