Here is the part i don't understand. It concernes the new testament: "The most transigent concern the foreign, presumed Aramaic transliterations in the text, coupled often with a "translation" which does not seem to offer a rendering of the original" Does he mean that the text was originally written in Aramaic, so the greek is transliterated from Aramaic with translations that doesn't fit the original names in Aramaic? If so, why is it called Aramaic transliterations? Isn't it normal to call the transliteration a Greek transliteration if it is tranliterated into greek? What does it mean that the text has Aramaic transliterations? The greek version of the new testament? Does anyone have any idea of what it can mean ?

I think you will find that the author of that section was talking about translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls and not any part of the New Testament. Allegro's contention was that Christianity arose from one or more of the Middle Eastern fertility and/or mystery cults based largely on ritual consumption of amanita muscaria, one of the "magic mushrooms" (See Graves, Food For Centaurs). His materiel was based primarily on the Dead Sea Scrolls and other Middle Eastern materiel rather than scripture.

Can you post a quote in greater context? Or tell me where in the book it can be found?
