Now, I know we need to examine the context in which this psalm applies to (being taken captive by Babylon I believe), but I was just curious to hear some feedback as to what exactly this Psalm is referring to.

Ps. 137:8-9 are a PROPHECY against Babylon. "O daughter of Babylon WHO ART TO BE DESTROYED,..."
This prophecy has been fulfilled. The Psalmist addresses his attention to the fall of Babylon, and then pronounces a blessing upon the ones who will bring this to fruition .
V's 7-8 before it prays for vengeance on the children of Edom who rejoiced in the fall of Jerusalem and demanded it to be completely destroyed, even to the foundation.
