Janelle144 your a great Catholic and yes it is exciting to have Pope Francis in the country. I know he will leave a message to a country in need of reflection . These are difficult times and we Christians are moving from status quo to be seen as radicals by many and by hearing this man of God ('excluding all the politics and who is a one true church stuff) bring us closer to Jesus Christ and the love which is characteristic of Catholicism and the Papacy!
No, it never happened. At least that is what the WH said.

Cut it out. Can't believe someone still can find a negative with the arrival of a Pope whom those of us who aren't even Catholic are excited about. It's not normal protocol for our president (whomever) to meet any dignitary at landing, yet Obama was there for Francis. There's no conspiracy.

Some people thrive on negativity. It stems from deep self hatred, much of which is encouraged by certain religions and coupled with dysfunctional parental influences.
On a positive note, I love Pope Francis. I am an atheist, who supports catholic (and ecumenical) charities. I am a humanist, and Pope Francis talk of putting people first, taking care of people and each other, appeals to me. People are what must be first, not religions, not politics, but people, freedom and opportunity.
By encouraging people to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem, Pope Francis understands that anyone can make a difference just by rolling up one's sleeves so to speak and getting to work. Excuses and negativity don;t cut it with me. Positive results come from making the world a better place one person at a time.
And we don't need deities or religions for that. But we need a lot more people like Pope Francis and the Dali Lama to encourage it.
I'm a former Catholic and I like the guy, too. He seems to come from a place of pure compassion--no ego about him at all. I think Church doctrine is second to his true love of people. People see this. He's the real deal for sure.
