19. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal: 20. but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21. for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also. Cool! So when are you going to sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor?

"Heaven" is a place where one dwells within the mind. The whole world and universe of one's mind are filled with gods, angels and demons.

When a loved one dies we say that the person is now in heaven. Which means that we understand and remember the best part of that person.

Dickens' story of Scrooge is probably the best example of a "Christian" conversion in real life terms. He was able to step directly into the kingdom of heaven. He brought heaven down to earth. (...on earth, as it is in heaven.)

I rather believe what the Owner of Heaven says about it, than you or Charles Dickens. heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Doesnt sound like earth to me, plus it would sound strange, dont lay up your treasures on earth but rather lay them up in your minds? But our minds are still on earth..

Although this is a nice sentiment, it obviously is not Biblically based.

Your 'owner of heaven' said you should sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor. Are you going to do that?

Jesus Christ is the owner of all my possessions, which is not much by the way.. haha, I am glad my treasure is stored up in heaven

Where do you read that all the disciples sold everything? I recall them going back to fishing even after Jesus crucifixion, so they must've not sold their boat I guess. Jesus spoke to a specific rich man about his specific spiritual problem, he was too attached to his money (Luke 18/Matthew 19), so Jesus instantly gave him the choice, serve me or your money. You can't serve both God and Mammon! And sadly the rich young ruler chose poorly as far as we can read in Scripture.
But God doesn't ask everyone to give away everything just for the sake of it, if it's something you need to let go of in order to follow Jesus Christ, then do it! Let God always be number 1 over your life, if you have to let go of porn, alcohol or drugs, do it! Beware of covetousness is the point, there's no earning your salvation by giving away all your possessions..

Luke 12:13-21 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

I read that your man-god said that if you wish to be perfect you should sell everything and give the money to the poor.

No. It wasn't to a specific person, it was meant for anyone that wants to follow him. Who was your man-god speaking to when he said not to store up treasures on Earth? How predictable that think that when he said '...don't lie with a man as you do with a woman' he was addressing everyone yet when he says 'sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor' you think it only applies to a specific person and not you.

You're making it up as you go! There are enough verses in your Bible that confirm that he is not just telling a rich man to give his money away. He means EVERYONE that wants to be a follower of his. I assume you do want to be a follower of JtC don't you??

Matthew 6:19
  • Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 14:33
  • Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
Matthew 6:24
  • No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money.
Matthew 19:21-24
  • Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Matthew 19:28-29
  • Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
Luke 9:23-25
  • Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?
Matt 13: 22
  • The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.
Hebrews 13:5
  • Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Phil 2:3
  • Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Acts 2:44-45
  • All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
The message is clear. If you want to follow Jesus, you need to "sell your possessions and give to the poor." It is a very simple message, and easy to do. Have you done it? Chances are you own a computer, pay for an Internet connection every month, live in a home or apartment, have a car, etc. In other words, you live a life at a level of wealth unimaginable in Jesus' time. Meanwhile, billions of people on the planet live in startling, abject poverty. Why don't you sell everything and follow Jesus, as he requests in the Bible?

Selling everything does not necessarily mean selling everything. Buying and selling is also spoken of as a "bad thing" in the NT account. The reason it is spoken badly of, is because both buying and selling denotes SOMEONE HAS LACK, and there is NO LACK in the Kingdom and no lack here if Kingdom principles are followed, which is if you see lack someone has, you GIVE.

The main point of the discourse is, that if you CAN'T walk away from something or even someone, then it just became an idol to you, you broke the commandment, because G-d alone is to be worshiped. There is more to worship than just praising Him, singing about Him, ect. Peace

Whoa - you sure know your Bible verses... how are you on faith in Christ? ... faith in His death and resurrection?
