I ask because my high school put on the play "Godspell." I thought it was fun, religious, informative, and generally moving and entertaining. I have not seen JCS myself so cannot comment on it.
My very religious gf at the time said it was a blasphemy and that she and no one from her church were going to attend.
I thought that was a very strange reaction; that she felt that the only "true" religious entertainment had to come from either the bible or Cecil B. De Mile.
Do you, as religious people, have any strong feelings about either of these productions?
When I found out that one of them was written by the same people who wrote "Grease" it made a lot of sense. There is a lot of biblical symbolism in Grease, at least the movie. Although I don't know if it's intentional or not.
That was one of the things that made me realize that Christianity (at least the belief system) was just a myth. And it was spiritually liberating to me.

"just a myth?" What does that mean to you? Maybe I should be asking what you mean by "belief system." If you are talking about the precepts and doctrines of institutional Christianity, that is hardly a myth, though I hesitate to call the various constructs worthwhile in any sense..
A couple of friends of mine were in the Toronto production of Godspell but I never did see it. I bought the soundtrack to JC Superstar though and played it often. Had some great tunes.
Never seen either one. Not sure I'd want to, to be honest.
Why, do you have a notion of what it is? What have you heard? What do you think?
