correction: you automatically know they don't buy into the doctrines of men you follow. You don't believe the promise of Jesus for a guide to be with us always.
But I would still be keeping those commands with that same Spirit though.

Usually in my experience it's people that prefer to simply create a God in their own minds instead of having to submit to what he's said about himself. Inevitably, their version of God approves of whatever pet sins they have and condemns the closed-mindedness of others.
What has he said about himself, other than what men have thought and wrote?

The point of the "New Commandment" is not that there is anything "new" about it (as Peter pointed out) or even that it is not something to be "enforced" in the sense of a "command," but that it is now the BASIS for community with God and man.

I discovered that when i thought about the things that i didn't want to do i ended up doing them. So i learned to think upon the things that i wanted to do.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
It's where transformation begins.
