My niece (my husband's brother's daughter) is having her first communion soon. We've only been around her a very few times because she lives in a different country than we do. We aren't going to be able to attend her ceremony, but we're sending a gift and a card.
Now, what advice I'm looking for is what to write in the card since we hardly know the little girl and my husband and his brother are not really very close. I'm not a religious person so this is kind of out of my wheelhouse. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't think you need to be religious in what you write in this sort of card. Just congratulate her, tell her you're thinking of her on her special day, and that you love her. Maybe say you wish you could be there or that you hope you'll see them soon. I can't imagine that she and her parents won't be thrilled with that.

Thanks. You're right. I don't know why I think it must have a religious tone. It's just a celebration I'm not at all familiar with.

Put on the card `` I will pray to Jesus for the girl every day until she receives the Spirit of Christ in her life, ..Glory to God ...``........ This is, What Would Jesus Do .......... Which is the heart of the Lord Jesus .....

Stick to Stijl's idea.

Stick with the generic congratulations. If you don't know them well, this comes across as very condescending.
