Because the church said so?

It's their church, their rules. Don't like it? Don't be catholic.

Why not? Is "Holy" matrimony a farce? And is marriage "bad"?
I don't understand why priests can't marry either...
Seems to me they wouldn't have half as many problems with (some) priests if they just let them marry...

Bud
politeness and tolerance demand the questions to remain unanswered, the general public kept in blissful ignorance, and the private suffering swept under the carpet.

imho.

You misread it. It cannot happen together on the same person.

Which means, Bud takes holy orders and Tony gets to marry. Of course, this can happen together, under one roof, in the presence of God

The Celibacy Law was instituted so the priest is not tempted to pass the church's wealth to his heirs.

This actually is the one and only correct answer...
The Church got into a lot of trouble, so this rule came about to save the church from becomming a family owned business...as it had been in some parts of the world.

In our modern world you see this still going on in the non-catholic church.
a rich well known Church leader gets old, so he always passes the church leadership on to his son....
The position of church leader, or Pastor becomes something that the members of that church automatically believe should go to the son of the head Pastor...

Like Billy Graham gets old and so many of his freinds and followers start to ask the son to 'take over" for his dad.....

"Take over"...think about that for a while...We have in many ways turned the Christian Church over into a family owned business..

So the correct answer is "The Celibacy Law was instituted so the priest is not tempted to pass the church's wealth to his heirs" for the catholics
