News, Christian groups backed fight against Ohio slots.

Yes gambling is a sin, for the spirit of the world rules over the spiritual authority of the wager. Competition against the neighbour is unfair and therefor a sin. Gambling in the church of Jesus like raffles, bingo, lotteries, raising money for a good cause though a wager do not matter. Does not matter, but Christians are still eternally saved to the Lord God. Their temporal life of the earth will be challenged by the spirit of this world. Those who comdemn sin in the church will be contested by the spirit of this world if the injustice is unmanagable to The Lord God
As a Catholic I believe gambling is only deemed a sin if it is excessive or causes you to neglect your family, friends, or moral duties. If you only place one dollar in a slot machine for the thrill of a game it is little or no different than placing four-quarters in a pinball machine for the same purpose. Hence I have gambled, well within limits of restraint, but admittedly it's not something I personally enjoy very often.
That being said I feel casinos tend to encourage excess in gambling, drink, and sex. If a casino had the cultural value of a good museum and strict limitations on how much time or money a person can lose it might be different. This is usually not the case so far as I can tell.
Anyway the Protestant understanding is, usually or so far as I understand it, that all gambling is a sin. So penny-ante poker games or buying one lottery ticket a month can be a sin.
Gambling is not a sin if it doesn't control you. You can gamble once a month, everyday or once a year. If it controls you rather than you control it, it's a sin.
Anything done in moderation is ok with God.

Other than the fact that I'm not a fan of the word "sin" as I don't think it's applicable, I agree with all of what you said. Gambling is just like alcohol, drugs or food or anything else that has a somewhat indulgent nature- whether it be playing poker or snorting cocaine- of course the latter may sound way more extreme than the other but really, either can be equally deadly and/or detrimental, to certain people. Both have a way of taking hold of you and your life if you let them. Just use caution and care when taking part in such things.
A lot of those verses I just don't see as having anything to do with gambling. I know most people gamble to win money, however, as little as I do it, when I do, I just enjoy the game blackjack. I go for the fun of it, the fun of the other people there, and just to enjoy myself. I don't get upset if I lose...although others really can.
