I have not been in a new Mopar lately.... I am a little suprised in some ways and disappointed in some others.

I have a rented 2010 Dodge Avenger in my driveway we are taking on a two day trip. Now while the build quality is not as good as it was on the 2010 Ford Fusion or the 2010 Chevy Impala I have recently rented, it DOES however have one of the smoother rides of any 2008-2010 car I have rented from the agency and these range from Camrys, Avalons, Impalas, Fusions, etc.

However the Fusion has much superior build quality over the Avenger, which seems to be its closest competition. I really dislike the huge blind spot that the Avenger has on the back of the rear doors, the seats that hurt your behind when you get out (and the headrests are way higher than your head, even if you are not short), the turn signal switch sounds cheap when you click it on (but the headlight turn switch feels solid), also the dash A/C vents seem cheap... when you try to aim them down, they will make the actual flap press down... I imagine in a couple of years these would all be broken. Also the trunk latch is in a bad spot - its too far into the compartment... it pinched one of my moms new shirts and punctured a hole in it. Also when my legs are "resting" they are pressing pretty hard on the center console at the dash area and the door panel. Stangely designed somehow.

Interior has alot of cheap hard plastic (whereas the Fusion had alot of nice padded and soft rubber coverings), but the engine in this Avenger is actually really smooth (it has the 2.4L), transmission shifts are smooth, it drives nice and has a smooth ride.... so maybe Mopar has finally got one over on GM and Ford of the 2010s.. but only in ride quality when comparing the mid-size models.

Avengers are a complete POS. I drive an 08 for work. I can't fathom anyone buying one for personal use. Everytime I see someone driving one (about twice a week), I shake my head. The 4 cy is not enough for the weight of the vehicle and the 6 cy doesn't help the poor handling. There are several better options out there.

lol @ that statement about what you said about someone buying one for themselves... I said the exact same thing to my mom when we took it on a little jaunt into town earlier this evening... well, we will drive it 135 miles tomorrow one way on the freeway.... well see. lol. Seemed to ride OK, but that was all I liked about it.

I'm driving a rental at the moment too and I took the 2010 Jetta over the Avenger because it was awful.

Another low point ... the fuel economy. In its class, all 4-cylinder automatics ...

Sebring/Avenger - 21/30
Galant - 21/30
6 - 21/30
Kizashi - 23/30
Accord - 21/31
Passat - 22/31
Camry - 22/32
Altima - 23/32
Malibu - 22/33
Fusion - 23/33
Sonata - 22/35

Not much better. Dodge hasn't made a good car in a long time. The Charger/300/Challenger is acceptable.

But Chrysler/Dodge has nothing in the top 10 of its category.

I am a Mopar fan but, Ford and GM have passed Chrysler in the interior quality, drivetrain, department. Which is maybe why I don't own a Mopar any more

But IMO, in the exterior department, Mopar is best of the big 3.

The Ram trucks are best in class, IMO. The new '11 Durango and Charger will be revealed soon. Plus the new SRT8 6.4L is going to be around 500HP (rumors). Good times!

Its around 105 today and I had the AC on damn near full blast. Had to get on the freeway and literally had to put pedal to the metal to hit 65 in a reasonable time. PATHETIC.
