My friend has a rental car, Chrysler 200.
I don't know the year, but pretty new, I think 2015.
She said when she had turned the engine off, the radio kept going.

I think maybe that means the radio has another power source - maybe satellite?

Could this be?

thank you.

I think it sounds like Chrysler is using Italian electronics now from its parent company Fiat..

Did it cut off when she took the key out of the ignition?

The radio in my F150 stays on until the door is opened. We had a 2002 Cavalier which was the same.

So does my 2006 PT Cruiser.
It is not uncommon at all.

Pretty much all cars do this, my 2001 Aztek did it, "retained accesory power" is the term.

As for the satellite thing-you radio doesn't get its power from a satellite. ?

2008 Ford Fusion does the same, radio will stay on for 10 minutes unless a door is opened. Also the power windows will work during this time. (actually I think all accessories still get power until time expires or a door is opened.)

Normal operation. It will shut off after a pre-set amount of time, or when the door is opened.

No mysterious power source. It pulls its juice from the cars electrical system just as it always does. In this case, drawing off the battery.

thanks for the replies.
it sounded from my friend like the radio stayed on even after she got out and closed the door.
but I will check with her, probably she meant after she turned off the engine.

That would indeed be a problem, but staying on after the ignition is turned off is not, as stated above. You can actually change the amount of time the radio stays on if you're so inclined.
