OK, I have been told I have fried the computer brain of my 1998 Dodge B1500 Van.
There's NONE close and one is a week out shipping (I am having the mech call and see if they can overnight it) this is obsolete at the dealerships. The quote is $895 with programming, towing vehicle and installing board.
The van has other issues which are also concerning (Ball joint making noise, brakes soft, medium push to stop), but frankly I am debating whether to sink another bundle into this vehicle when I may very well be letting it go in 3-6 months.
There's an auction of cars this Friday, either way it's a crap shoot.
I'm going to call him back at 11 am. I am leaning towards letting it sit, getting the replacement vehicle and then stripping the old one and junking it out and I suspect (Looking at the offering of vehicles at the auction,) a $1K purchase might be a better gamble.
Oh at this point I am out $140 for diagnostic and $142 for van rental The Van rental would jump to $260 till Saturday, but then it's done. If I go with replace brain, then it's another week with rental and that's another $400....
Yeah, the CU approved the loan. So the dodge is heading to the scrap yard. I'm starting with a 2005 Chevy Express...The funny thing is, the owner is a auto mech/car dealer. So, he repaired the Chevy and they sent a GMC front grille. He installed it and THEN realized it was the wrong one, they refused to take it back, so I have one confusing looking van...I'm sure to have people scratching their heads over this...
Although GM would never admit it, Grills & Emblems were often
placed on the wrong vehicle. it happens when you run two
brands down the same line
