How does their employee payroll operate during that period?

Stupid idiots.

Sorry, that was not cool. My reaction towards all of American automakers remains the same.

Get it together or sink into oblivion. I was at the Honda dealer on Monday, and of course all the dealerships are right next to each other, and I just had no compulsion to even look at GMC or Chrysler. Ford, maybe, but my internal thought process says I am on my third Honda for a reason.

If Ford wants Americans to buy their products for a reason other than nationalism, than they need to up their game. 0.02

My friend who works quality assurance for Borg Warner Inc has been sent on vacation this week with all of their corporate and manufacturing operation to be closed until as early as January 7'th with the possibility of not being told to return until January 20'th. He is not receiving any pay during this period.

According to USA Today they would be shutting down for two weeks anyways due to the holidays, they're just extending it for two more weeks. I'm sure the employees will at least get their normal holiday pay.

Well, it's a start. Maybe the UAW will get a clue about their bloated salaries for their workers and try and do what they can to salvage the company.

The big 3 all need to be able to shed about 40% of their dealerships, get workers wages in line with what is reasonable, strip down the gas guzzlers, get new executive management teams and come back lean & mean. It can be done. It has been done. It just takes some guts.

If they do this they will be better positioned for new investors as they aggressively expand into alternative fuel vehicles of all sorts. I honestly think if they strip away all the negative as outlined above, they will be more appealing to venture capitalists.

OMG! I am so shocked!

PSYCHE!!
I saw this coming and though I feel sorry for the workers, it's a good move by Chrysler. No use wasting time, energy, money, etc making cars no one is really buying anyway.

They have. Not only does the latest reliability reports show Ford up there with Honda and Toyota, but their lineup has been improved as well. Cars like the Flex, Fusion, Edge, etc, are making themselves known. To be brutally honest with you, the Edge now looks like a much better buy than my previous old favorite SUV, the 4Runner. The interior is flashy, but not overkill. The exterior design is much better and the price is much more attractive. My uncle has now had one for over 2 years and no hiccups whatsoever. Its a nice ride and, IMO, better than any Toyota SUV Ive driven in. The Pilot from Honda is nice, but theyre just.... blah. Boring. Ford offers flash, something that I never thought Id ever say.
