The city service was nearly stellar; Rumpke's service to my neighbors, not so much.
Ohiogirl, that was our experience, too! When we lived in the City of Centerville, we were VERY impressed with the city trash pickup. Now that we own a home in the neighboring township, we have our choice of three mediocre contractors. While our choice is the one that has green & white trucks and is an Official Sponsor of NASCAR (), we still have issues with them. To their credit, they are responsive when we call. But why do we even have to call???

I wonder how much it cost the City to deliver the big green recycling-- err...garbage can to my house. That I won't use. I already have the small recycling bin.

I live in one of the pilot neighborhoods for the expanded recycling program. I think they determined it was less costly to just give every household the large container, then give people the opportunity to tell them they want a smaller size. Also, if memory serves the little squarish hand-held bins will be discontinued.

I'm a MAJOR fan of the new program. I'm kind of embarrassed to say that my husband and I didn't participate in recycling at all under the old system. Now we mostly fill a large wheeled container every two weeks. The amount of cardboard especially that we were throwing away was unbelievable. The recyclebank rewards program is a nice little incentive, too.

I'm also loving the new recycling program. My love of the giant green bin sent me to home depot to spend $80 on a nearly identical but 25% smaller toter-brand bin for my regular trash.

The new giant bins hold so much more than the last and recycling larger boxes is now a cinch.
