Hi, my husband and I are looking for a house. We don't have kids yet and we like to go out to the occasional bar or restaurant, but also want a safe area for walking the dogs. We like Ft. Thomas because the houses have character, but we arent familiar with what there is to do in the area. Are there any good restaurants or any nightlife in or around this area?

Start by treating yourselves to Vito's Cafe on Highland Ave. in Ft. Thomas--home of the "singing servers." (quite a few students at CCM have sung there while pursuing their own professional singing careers).

Ft. Thomas is a great choice because it has everything you require (safe area for walking the dogs, houses with character, plus an excellent school system for when you start a family), except it is not known for nightlife and it has few restaurants. There is Vito’s Cafe On Highland Ave. and a new location of Mio’s Pizza will be opening on North Ft. Thomas Ave. where Highland Ave. runs into it. However, Ft. Thomas is unquestionably one of the nicest residential cities in the Greater Cincinnati area and located only a few minutes from downtown Cincinnati and Newport on the Levee nightlife and entertainment. There is also a TANK bus line that connects these areas.

Ft. Thomas is built along a ridge above the Ohio River. The main drag, Ft. Thomas Ave., follows this ridge from north to south, basically with residential streets flowing from it. So, driving through it typically involves going up and down some hills, but nothing too major. There are three main shopping areas (north central and south) distributed along Ft. Thomas Ave.

Best of all, the trees are just the right height in Ft Thomas. Sorry, I just couldn’t resist!

Fort Thomas doesn't really have that much night life (or retail/ restaurants in general) to speak of. It's a nice pre WW2 bedroom community with good schools and nice housing stock. Night life is going to be in Newport / Covington / Cincinnati, main shopping areas are in Florence or along I-275 in Ohio. That's the main drawback to FTT
