Good news! If I remember correctly we were lagging behind Columbus in 2011 & 2012.

Positive numbers are good news. But if you look at the overall numbers, particularly the percentages, there is nothing to crow about in Ohio period. Of course I did not take the time to compare the rest of the country. Ohio might be hanging in there and Cincinnati doing its share, but I still don't hear much about the death of the depression.

Would be interesting to see a chart of peak to trough job losses and subsequent gains for these metros.

My guess would be that due to the institutional presence of the state capital, Columbus didn't quite experience the magnitude of drawdown in jobs that others Ohio cities experienced.

PLEASE NOTE: On March 20, 2015 the U.S. Dept of Labor released a modified set of numerical job stats covering Dec 2013-Dec 2014 that invalidate the stats provided above in post #1. Now, clicking the link in post #1 takes you to these revised figures and also to the most recent Ohio metro jobs stats covering Jan 2014-Jan 2015. Needless to say, expect this combined revision/update to engender new commentary.

I noticed that the other day because Columbus' civilian labor force jumped by a lot vs. the previous version (from less than 1 million to well over), but I haven't had time to look at it until now.

The new numbers:
Non-Farm Jobs Change
December 2013-December 2014

Cincinnati: +19,000
Columbus: +17,700
Cleveland: +1,300

January 2014-January 2015

Columbus: +30,400
Cincinnati: +21,100
Cleveland: +11,000

Civilian Labor Force Change

December 2013-2014

Cincinnati: +7,018
Columbus: +3,604
Cleveland: +1,039

January 2014-2015

Columbus: +38,008
Cleveland: +8,008
Cincinnati: -6,707

I'm delighted to bump up this thread - because, again, from a different source, Cincinnati has been recognized as Ohio's leading job producer:
