Is there any source to see how MSAs and CSAs stack up against each other in terms of crime rates?
City crime rates just don't show the whole story.
For example, in the Detroit area, all of the crime is pretty much in city limits while in the Bay Area SF is pretty safe while other surrounding cities have high crime rates. One can infer that the city of Detroit is more dangerous than the city of San Francisco, but it can't be assumed that the Bay Area as a whole is safer than Metro Detroit just from these statistics.
