I love Miami Lakes with the beautiful Main street shoppes.

Altamonte has some nice shops, restaurants and lakeside parks and walking paths:

But in general, Altamonte is just average with some nice parts and good amenities. I am not very familiar with that part of Miami so I can't really fairly decide.

The two are nothing alike. Altamonte is a major suburb with commercial centers. Miami Lakes is almost purely residential.
