I was thinking about this question recently. There is a lot of general concern in the US when it comes to declining infrastructure, but what are some specific examples of decline that you have seen or experienced in person in recent years?

And do you know of any plans to fix the decline, or not?

Probably somewhere in Louisiana. They have the worst roads in that state.

Interesting. Especially since most of the major/main highways have been redone within the last 7 years and are practically brand new . Let's not even point out that the same study that came to that finding had Pennsylvania or New York in the top 5 or 10.

Three stretches of Interstate that stick out to me...

- I-57 between Mt. Vernon, IL and Marion, IL
- I-75 between Warner Robins, GA and Cordele, GA
- I-77 between Statesville, NC and Mooresville, NC

In Pennsylvania, I have driven I-79 in Greene, Washington, Allegheny, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer Counties, and I-80 in Mercer, Venango, Clarion, Jefferson, Clearfield and Centre Counties within the last two months. Aside from a segment of I-80 in Clearfield County that was under construction, the drive on both of those highways was smooth.

The only segment of Interstate in Pennsylvania that I drove on that was in need of improvement was the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel and Bedford.

Actually the I-57 stretch is supposed to be widened to 6 lanes at some point. Mainly due to the traffic that connects between St. Louis to get to I-24. Though the other alternative is to extend I-24 Northwest to the St. Louis suburbs somewhere.

Many freeways in Southern California have degraded quite a bit in the past 10 years. I-5 between the Orange County Line to Downtown Los Angeles is absolutely atrocious. The stretch of I-5 in Orange County was significantly widened in the late 90's/early 2000's and is one of the better stretches of freeway in the country.

Lousiana has improved their highways quite a bit, but given the combination of heat/rain/swampy ground, they have to be constantly maintained. I-10 used to be in a lot worse shape than it is now.

Every damn highway in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Horrible highways in both states. They can't even build the new ones right or repair the old ones the right way. They repaved 95/128 in porttions in 2010 and they are crumbling all over again. Then there was the tunnel collapse in Boston in 2006, and the road surface through the tunnels is quite rough. Don't blame it on the climate, New Hampshire highways are in much better condition. I-95 in Connecticut must exist in hell, should have been widened eons ago.
