Allentown has a smaller population in its city limits than El Paso, but like other Northeast cities the built environment is very dense in the urban core. Being on the fringes of the Northeast megalopolis it's certainly less isolated from other key US population centers than El Paso. Allentown is most likely more diverse these days than El Paso, which is overwhelmingly Mexican-American. The central city of Allentown is much lower income than surrounding suburbs, or the metro's second city of Bethlehem. But the metro area is statistically way ahead of El Paso in terms of economic status and educational attainment.
Lehigh Valley does not look like a megalopolis at all. It's all trees off the highways. Kind of looks a little like Columbia, SC. Also, there is only 1 mall from what it looks like. I imagine it is much more diverse than El Paso for sure. Does it have a small city feel? Like do you go to places and see so many people you know if you live there? Like would you go to the movies on a Saturday night and see all your friends hanging out at the movies? Or go to the mall and see your college professors? Does it have that type of small city feel to it? It by no means looks like a megalopolis.

Allentown and El Paso have nearly identical sized MSA's (not sure if you chose to compare them for this reason) so I'm sure a lot of their most notable amenities are used by a wide variety of people.
I think both cities/metros have a good bit to offer and which one is better likely comes down to cultural preferences/personality.
Well I'll be visiting Lehigh Valley this summer and was wondering how it compares to El Paso. So far, it looks like El Paso is in the lead. Maybe because there is more to do in EP?
