Didn't vote. I don't have a simple answer. I'd say it's a tossup between NYC and DC, but Philly has some great stuff, too. DC has so many wonderful monuments related to the founding and history of our country, as does Philly on a smaller scale, but DC has the Smithsonian.
New York, on the other hand, probably has the widest variety of type of museums. Does DC or Philly have a Museum of Sex or a Tenement Museum or the Museum of Television and Radio?
The Empire State Building alone is a far bigger/more popular landmark than anything in DC (or the country for that matter) according to polling.
NYC whallops any city when it comes to museums.
Monuments? Statue of Liberty is more impressive than any monument in DC.
NYC has more and more impressive everything (except memorials, I'm not familair with that) nonetheless, the new World Trade Center memorial will be the most innovative and beautiful in the country.

I agree all three have a lot to offer. Smithsonian is amazing and free and NYC has soem great museums. On memorials; I guess they are cool but they seem to get old pretty quick but so can the liberty bell I suppose
There is also the National Revolutionary war museum being built in Valley Forge; which amazingly there has yet to be a museum in the US specifically for the revolution
All of them! NYC has the most overall, but DC and Philly have some really nice ones when it comes to the revolutionary era, Philly much more so than DC. And I can't believe you left out Boston! It's right up there with Philly.

Also in my opinion many of NYC's landmarks are overrated:you pay $20 to go on top of an old skyscraper and see what?It's not even the tallest building in the world
