Between Austin and Seattle, which has better nightlife?

Criteria to consider:
Number or bars
Diversity of bars
Late-night dining
Public transportation and cheap, abundant taxi cabs
Things to do at night that aren't bars (poetry slams, open mics, theatre, drum circles, etc.)

Number of bars: Seattle (by a lot)
Diversity of bars: Seattle
Late-night dining: neither are great, slight edge to Seattle
Public transportation and cheap, abundant taxi cabs: Seattle
Things to do at night that aren't bars: Seattle

The reason Seattle wins is that it just has a lot more nightlife spread throughout the City, with multiple nightlife districts and a lot of neighborhood bars. While it has nothing comparable to 6th Ave in terms of one bustling, concentrated area, on the whole there are a lot more walkable nightlife areas than Austin. There are also a significantly greater diversity of places in Seattle.
