You really are hung up on this phrase, aren't you?
Of those 5 cities you highlighted, I have lived in 3. I have spent a good amount of time in the other 2.
Phoenix, for a city it's size, is in fact boring (unless you're into golf). I know this because I spent 8 boring years there.
Las Vegas? That city was built on fake. Fake Eiffel Tower. Fake Venetian canals. Fake Roman Empire. Fake New York skyline. Fake boobs. Fake noses. Fake lips. Fake-fake-fake.
Miami, in my opinion, gets a lot more hype than it deserves. The beaches are nice, but a far cry from the beaches of Southern California or Hawaii.
Detroit: Look up Detroit's population in the 60's, then look up the most recent numbers. Yes, it is being abandoned. Entire city blocks burned to the ground with no electricity. Almost everyone I know who lives there will admit this.
Washington D.C.? Yeah. I stand by "yuck".
This isn't the first thread I've posted in that you have seen fit to jump in and reply to me with this phrase. That requires effort. Did I do something to ruffle your feathers? Spokane to Jalisco is a really long distance to pee in someone's cereal bowl.

then you obviously don't know anybody in Detroit smh
I can't think of one neighborhood in Detroit that has no electricity. Do we experience problems with our electricity from time to time in different neighborhoods? yes, especially during storms. But there is no neighborhood that just doesn't have power. And the neighborhoods that do fit the "abandoned" image often times have nothing to do with them being burned down, they have been abandoned for various reasons. Many of these neighborhoods also have plenty of people still and only have declined in population. Now quit lying about how many people you know in Detroit telling you this bs that you've obviously got from the news and exaggerated
Seattle| Rain
Honolulu| Volcano
San Francisco| Earthquake
Los Angeles| Kobe Bryant
Phoenix| Cactus
Las Vegas| Casino
Houston| Big City
Chicago| Elevated Trains
New Orleans| Crime
Miami| Crime/Hurricanes
Detroit| Empty
New York City| Subway/Traffic
D.C.| Government
Boston| Cold
Dallas| Star

Sorry if you don't like it, but I really do know a lot of people there who share my views on this. Maybe you don't. Fine. We didn't have the same friends. You don't speak for the whole city and neither do I. That's why I said "people I know", but thanks for accusing me of lying anyway.
I'll concede that my opinion might be a little dated. I lived there in the mid-90's. From what I've heard (on the news! ) there's been some recent efforts to revitalize the inner city, but when I was there that entire area on the other side of 75 from the old Tiger Stadium was pitch-black as far as the eye could see at night. Maybe that's changed since then. I don't know.
Look, I'm sorry if what I said came off to you as a bash on Detroit. It certainly wasn't meant that way. I actually enjoyed my brief time living there and made some really good friends, but come on! The numbers speak for themselves. The city has been shrinking for decades now.
