Is Minneapolis known to have a lot of wealthy areas like Chicago. If so, of the 2 cities, which has the best Wealthy areas of the Metro and what areas are they. Eg. Edina, Winnetka.
Chicago is significantly larger. Hence, I think you can generally follow the rule of thumb that the affluent areas of Chicago are going to have that much more sizzle. Just as the "bad" parts of town are going to be that much scarier.
There are pockets of wealth in all directions from Minneapolis-St. Paul. But it's the west and southwest sides of town that carry the reputation in MSP that the north side carries in Chicago. I would say that Wayzata (west) boasts the greatest cluster of Jay Gatsby worthy estates. All of the lakefront communities on the east side of Lake Minnetonka are namebrand real estate. Edina (southwest) seems to be one that a lot of people are familiar with. It's a large suburb with plenty of modest apartments, condos, and 1960s housing stock, but it does have parts comparable to Wilmette/Kenilworth/Winnetka that live up to the "cake-eater" reputation. In Minneapolis proper, Lake of the Isles has the old mansions, but the entire chain of lakes area on the west and SW side are highly desirable, along with everything off of the Grand Rounds Parkway. St. Paul is probably Summit Avenue, Miss River Blvd, and Highland neighborhood. North Oaks, Mahtomedi, and Stillwater highlight the North/NE metro.
Overall though, I don't think you're going to find anything in the midwest that oozes widespread affluence like the northern suburbs of Chicago. If you want a very wide swath of picturesque homes with perfectly manicured lawns, that's the place.
