Hi,

The reason I posted the 2 places I did is due to the fact they are both coastal towns that I have been looking into. There is likely a better match out there for this, but really, right now, a comparison of the cost of homeowners insurance and property taxes is most important for this post.

I will be posting a second post that describes what we are looking for, so please keep your eyes open for it.

We are in TX now, but not near the coast and property taxes keep us from buying...they are so high.

I read that insurance for the coast in FL is very high.
Insurance for property in Rockport is not as high as NE Florida coast, so it *seems*, but I need info from people who know from experience

So...moving to the coast, near a marina with restaurants and shopping, assuming same cost (relative) housing, which will be cheaper: N.E. coast Florida or gulf coast TX?

I hope I made sense? Thank you!

SoManyPlaces,

I can't speak with authority on Fl. but I have a friend that lived on Padre Island until three years ago, and his property taxes were astronomical. He paid approx. $8K per year on a $285K property. I don't think you'll see anything that high in St. Augustine, but there are more knowlegable sources that can speak to that.
