I hear people often say there is nothing to Vegas but the strip. How do you define 'nothing'?

The Metro has 1.9 million people, so it's hard to believe NOTHING is going on outside of the strip. So, my question is, would you compare off-strip Las Vegas to mid-sized cities like Charlotte or Orlando...

..or is it even less than that?

Orlando, maybe. Charlotte, no.

The fact that Charlotte is larger than both Orlando and Vegas, and doesn't promote or rely on tourism as much as the other two is a big difference.

Charlotte is also home to many Fortune 500 companies, one of the largest energy sectors in the country, ect.

The main activity in Charlotte isn't at the amusement park, and there are no casinos. Charlotte is the typical American city and functions as that.

I currently live in Riverside (just 3 more months!) so I agree, LV outside of the strip is made of houses and chain stores... That's it.

It reminded me a lot of San Antonio.

Actually I felt like I fell out of Orlando and into San Antonio when I left the strip.

Residential Las Vegas off strip? I'd say more like CA's Inland Empire. It's Western , not Southern.
