is this supposed to be a joke? Because its funny.

let me break it down. So, everyone in Chicago...all of them instead of being baptized as youth they were inducted into the superiority of Chicago, kind of like a church service, they had to study it but it must then be self induced superiority once they understand it, enough to know they are superior to all but LA and NYC...though once they were superior to LA, and took the horrifying blow by LA probably sometime not long after their birth, or before. It shall not every happen again.

There are continuing education classes on 'what to do about the growing msa of DFW, the capital, and Houston' class 201 is "Don't panic, but Panic"

That is only for the few though, the sort of clergy of Chicago superiority. Most Chicagoans are in ignorant bliss of these other cities that might overtake them, and when that happens its all over. Chicago will go dark. The bean will fall. Willis Tower will be renamed...in the shadow of thee great Los Angeles tower"

History books will be re-written to say that while Frank Lloyd Wright was born in WI and started and spent most of his career in Chicago, those were only internships before his most important work was done in Los Angeles, in fact he considered himself to be truly born in Los Angeles, where his real life began.

Is it? By Houston and Dallas? Come back in another 50 years, they have a long ways to go, and 50 years from now would give them enough time to pass Chicago IF Chicago stood still, which it isn't. Wishful thinking.

See it's comments like these why cities like Chicago and Philly get trashed. Keep in mind Chicago isn't that much bigger than DFW and Houston for them to not catch up fast only 3 million gap and has the slowest growth in the country's major cities.

Chicago isn't that much bigger? Yeah, 3.3 million is nothing. In fact you can go so far as to say that Chicago and Los Angeles are about the same size. Really, get off the Texas metros, this thread is about Chicago and Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas have no place here.

In that case I haven't said anything that belittles Chicago either just facts.

I want Chicago to remain a great city, trust me you don't want to end up like Philly. Sad.
I don't live in Chicago, nor do I represent Chicago. Actually, there is a tendency on these forums to anthropomorphize cities...trust me, Chicago doesn't have a brain, a thought process, a plan, or a worry, and she really doesn't even know Philly. Chicago is a CITY, not a person that obsesses over his or her ranking in the US, or the world.

So, when members of this forum feel worry that a city might lose a ranking or two, trust me, the city doesn't care. The people who run the city might, but I doubt they spend as much as a minute on this forum. SO, the snark and belittling doesn't really make sense. You can all carry on with your oh so much caring and concern, but it's really kind of silly.

Chicago doesn't look like "***." Of course, that can be your opinion, but many would disagree.

I spend way too much time reading "city data forum" a website full of people who live in a bubble and have no idea of what they are talking about. Chicago looking like whatever ??? Trip advisor, and multiple sources have it as one of the world's most beautiful cities and the 18th top destination in the world. Take a drive and see Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Ave, both magnificent accomplishments to what engineers can accomplish. All the talk on this forum about Chicago losing a spot to Houston or whatever the latest city on this forum is is also ridiculous; Mike Royko, the beloved Chicago Tribune columnist said it best when Los Angeles surpassed Chicago in population, " What would you rather have ( referring to size) a diamond or a large buffalo chip? Boston, SF and Chicago will always be diamonds; Houston, LA and whatever sprawling newcomer will be a buffalo chip with bragging rights as to size.

By who? Make a case for such a city as to why it is number 3. You seem sure that it is threatening Chicagoans SOOO much so why don't you state why you think they pass Chicago in every way. Give yourself some credibility.

The fact that you even but Los Angeles in the same category as Houston shows you know nothing about LA.

Los Angeles is actually a pretty nice looking city. Just because it doesn't have a massive amount of high rises doesn't mean it doesn't look good.
