Surprised Chicago and Austin aren't in the top 10, and surprised DC didn't even make the list. I'm surprised Miami made the list, it always seemed to be a city with a not-so-great reputation among Americans. I like Miami though, so it's good to see that people see it as a desirable place.
It almost looks more like states/cities that folks have taken a vacation in or would like to take a vacation in and therefore surmise that it would certainly seem to be a good place to live in as well. Hence why my city, which is a damn nice but nonetheless problematic city, polls so highly. Lots of folks would love to live here but could never afford the housing and realize that the jobs/salaries situation is challenging for most.
Very good point. The same can be said about Portland. Add to that all the good publicity we get from TV shows and Eastern publications. My city is fast becoming similar to the cities people want to get away from due to the fact that so many want to live here: very low vacancy rates in rental housing and very expensive to rent along with low salaries for the average worker, and scarcity of jobs along with a high COL for people coming from places other than large cities.
The problem with the top cities and states to which everyone wants to move is that everyone wants to move there.
It's primarily cause of weather. NYC is an exception. The only two other cities that get cold that made the list are Boston and Chicago. Surprised DC didn't make it.
In all honesty if I leave Chicago it would be to somewhere warmer.
Murder rate 350% higher than the national average, unemployment among the highest in the US, weather s*u*x in both winter and summer, population has decreased by over 6% since 2000...I'm surprised it's even listed. It does have a nice shore line and downtown.

Yeah, I love San Diego and you can see many other do too which creates an imbalance between cost of living and income.
