thats hard to say. i like the twin cities because they both have very distinct characters yet so close together. ive heard it said that St. Paul is the western-most eastern city, and Minneapolis is the eastern-most western city. minneapolis gives u the more modern skyscrapers, the business, the "new money", whereas st. paul gives u the oldschool architecture, the culture, and the "old money" haha

Minneapolis

Minneapolis and St. Paul....

I personally like MPLS better, but they are both cool.

I prefer St. Paul. It is more friendly, has nicer neighborhoods, is hilly, and is just overall more pretty. Minneapolis is nice though

St. Paul is to Minneapolis as San Francisco is to San Jose.

Minneapolis is white collar, cosmopolitan, Protestant, German, Glass, New, faster, flat and the first city of the West and has a large Somali and east African population

St. Paul is blue collar, older, Catholic, Irish, Brick, Old, slower, hillier and the last city of the East and has a large Hmong and Asian population.

They border each other.
They both have lakes and parks and trails.
They both have access to the Mississippi River.
They both have decent downtowns.

Minneapolis has the Basilica of St. Mary

St. Paul has the Cathedral

Minneapolis has Target Field

St. Paul has Xcel Energy Center

Minneapolis has I35 Bridge

St. Paul has Wabasha Bridge

Minneapolis has a big City Hall

St. Paul has a big Capitol Building

Minneapolis has Lake Mansions

St. Paul has Summit Avenue Mansions

Minneapolis has the Star Tribune

St. Paul has the Pioneer Press

Secondary cities have to stick together.

I have lived in both for long periods of time. Minneapolis is more urban, has much better nightlife, is more walkable and has better transit. It is more big city and more fun to live in, especially if you are young and/or single.

St Paul has more of a community feel, people know their neighbors and such. It has less crime than Minneapolis and is probably one of the safest central cities of a major metro in the country. It has large swathes of old, intact neighborhoods and in general feels more rooted. It is more family oriented than Minneapolis but can be a bit boring at times. In many ways it is a giant small town.

They are both great cities. It is not uncommon for people to start out their adult lives in Minneapolis and then move to St Paul as they get older and their life focus changes.

It could just be because I've lived in both Denver and Milwaukee, so they're the two major cities I'm most familiar with, but Minneapolis reminds a lot of Denver while St. Paul reminds me a lot of Milwaukee.

After a handful of visits, I have found St. Paul easier to get around, more visually pleasant, a little more laid-back, and less likely to gaze lovingly at itself in a mirror. A more thorough analysis is in order with more future visits.
