Denver, New Orleans and Dallas, probably in that order. Maybe New Orleans first.

Virtually irrelevant

New Orleans is easily the best, but surely you can't base a move off of just transportation.

I lived in Orlando 20 years ago and was carless .I always got around easily by bus, rode my bike or took an occasional taxi.I have been to 4 other cities on this list Dallas ,Denver,Nashville and OKC all which seemed spread out. Not on the list Las Vegas ....I never had a problem getting around there either.

I know a lot of people who have lived in New Orleans without a car. It's not a very big metro and it seems pretty centralized. It also has the most walkable urban fabric of all these cities.

Honestly none of them are great places to be
without a ride. They are not compact towns like
the northeast towns. And what if I found a job
miles outside the town. I'd be screwed.

If I had to be a deadbeat though I would do it
in a North Carolina city.

In Orlando, you CAN be carless, but it depends on how patient you are for taking bus after bus. Also, Orlando and Florida cities in general are considered some of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians. This is even more so for people cycling. A lot of hit 'n' runs and people driving with blindfolds on. Orlando does have the Sunrail coming soon, so people won't have to only rely on taking a bus or cycling.

Born and raised in Orlando. It's REALLY TOUGH to live here without a car considering how spread out the Orlando area really is. LYNX bus systems are not the most reliable and I seem to always be hearing about an accident occurring every week. To get to some parts of town, a bus rides can take at minimum 90 minutes for places I want to go to, where as a car would be 20 tops.
Taxis can only be found downtown, or the airport. Otherwise, you're calling and waiting.

You can bike, but the humidity and heat can be a problem if you're trying to avoid sweating through your clothes. Then you have rain about 2/3 of the year to deal with.

SunRail will be a huge help, but we've got a long way to go before one can really take pride in our public transportation.

My vote for the poll would be New Orleans, but a lot of the cities listed I haven't been to.

^ SunRail will be the spine for rail but Orlando could really use a light rail system. It's also crazy that SunRail and the new All Aboard Florida trains will not connect with each other. As for the list it would be New Orleans first and perhaps Denver next.
