That's only because there were two prominent right-wing parties running against the NDP (the Conservative Party and the uber right Wild Rose Party) and the right-wing vote was split.

I agree, but isn't there more of an extreme, even in California?

Don't misunderstand me, I love California, and appreciate it's forward thinking liberal ways.

This article is interesting. Any truth to it?

True, but isn't that the difference? Meaning that political affiliation is a bit more fluid in Canada as a whole?

That someone can vote NDP in one election, when they voted Conservative in the last?

I also don't think Albertans think in so a white and black kind of way and aren't betraying their soul when voting for a very different party?

Colorado is ultra-conservative compared to California.

California is more ideologically liberal, but it also has more staunch Conservatives (they are still a small minority).

For example, Ontario is a liberal province where the Conservatives are poised to take power. In California, the GOP is struggling to break the Democratic supermajority.

They might not.

Have you ever considered that Canadian liberals are far more straightforward in their liberal agenda, while many American (and California liberals) may be just as liberal as their Canadian liberals but try to make themselves look much more moderate than they really are?

Here in California Hillary has managed to fool everyone into thinking that she is more moderate (even conservative) than she really is. Lots of Californians actually think Hillary is closer to the Republican platform than the Democratic platform.

Have you ever considered that Californians also overplay how conservative the "conservative" parts of California are? Heck, people still think of Orange County as highly conservative when in reality it's now a blue-leaning purple county.

Have you ever considered that even liberal Germany has more euroskeptic, far-right politicians in the AFD (who have actually been elected to significant positions) whereas if they were in California they wouldn't hold a snowball's chance in hell of being elected to the state legislature?

And the soon-to-be premier would fit right in with Trump's GOP.

So much for Ontario being a left-wing bastion.

Exactly. Hillary won Orange County by 8.6%. To put things in perspective, that's a few percent less than Oregon.

Is Oregon a right-wing mecca? No? Then neither is Orange County.
