I'm looking for an objective comparison between life in Miami and Dallas from someone who is familiar with both cities. I have comparable job offers in each place, so location is a determining factor. For some background, I'm an academic with a young family. We're moving from New England but spouse and I were both raised in Manhattan. Thanks!

Coming from the NE you might be more at home in Miami.

Dallas may be too slow paced for you, however, Dallas is going to be more family friendly for younger couples & offers a MUCH better QOL where you can afford to vacation in Miami anytime you want to.

Miami is not very NE-like at all. I dunno what to compare it too, but it is not very NE-like

I was mainly referring to Miami's large population of Latinos (Cubans, Puerto Ricans) & Jews is very similar to that of the NE.

well the op didn't give much info as to what they are looking for so Latins and Jew might be the furthest thing from his/her mind

Dallas may be more practical. It’s probably a better place to raise a family, and for most, a much more practical place to jumpstart a career. Dallas doesn't have a beach, mountains, or any worthwhile topography on the periphery. Somebody might jump in and post a photo of a 20 foot waterfall in Oklahoma somewhere, but really Dallas is topographically in the middle of nowhere and not a whole lot of natural beauty around. Dallas might be a better food choice even though Miami is multicultural, it's also dominated by Latino influence where Dallas might satisfy both an all American and multi cultural palate more.

If I had to live year round in either, I'd much rather be looking at the blue waters and palm trees of Miami. Life would just be much more interesting there by the beach. Also if you are looking for an urban pulse and fast paced city then Miami is it. If suburban life is more your preference then I would go with Dallas. Both cities have fabulous shopping. However more criteria based on your personal preferences might narrow down the options.
