Since you want a good job market you might look elsewhere. Charlottesville has a very cultured culture. Roanoke has an amazing art museum - inquire about other cultural activities.

If you can tolerate a larger city check out Knoxville and Chattanooga to get a sense of their cultural scenes. If jobs are a priority, Greenville SC is booming. You are close to Asheville and may make enough to afford to stay overnight after evening cultural events.

Time for a road trip!

But you might luck out and find a good job in Asheville. It has a cultural scene equal or greater to the other cities.
