I have the option of moving to either Dallas or Austin and REALLY need some help! I am not concerned with politics, traffic, bugs or weather...But rather the quality of a social life, being around other single professionals in their 30-40s, things to do and events going on and vibe/friendliness of the people. Some areas in Dallas I liked were Uptown/Oaklawn/Knox Henderson. The areas in Austin so far are SoCo (South Congress) and Arboretum.
It seems like all the posts I have ran into were a few years back, and also posted by people with either families or in their 20s. Since I am neither, I am looking for some up to date advice for a single person in my age bracket. Hopefully, there will be people who have lived in both
Dallas. Don't take this the wrong way, but if you're in your mid 30's and looking for professional 30-somethings and 40-somethings to hang around and date, then you're too old for Austin. Depsite what anybody will say, Austin is still a college/20 somethings' town at heart.
This will probably be moved to the Texas forum, by the way, but should stay right here in the City vs. City forum if you want truthful, unbiased opinions from people who aren't Austin or Dallas homers.
Dallas and it's not even close. Dallas has more pockets to hang out in because it's a much larger city. Also be sure to check out Bishop Arts District, and the Arts district proper. Plus if you throw in Ft. Worth and Arlington it's easily a winner. The good news is Austin is only 3 hours away so a weekend away should be fairly easy to take.
