A bit of a first world dilemma, however a buddy of mine who is part owner of a few self storage companies has the choice to relocate after a divorce. He currently lives in the NYC Metro, and will be perfectly fine flying back to see his son (ex gets custody) one time a month.
He's in his mid 40s and gross income is roughly 350k. No real debt to speak of aside from his car, and doesn't plan on buying a home in his new city.
He loves traveling (being in a city with an international airport is key)
He wants to be somewhere with similar diversity as NYC
He wants to be somewhere with a decent dating scene for guys his age

Thoughts on his options?
In the simplest of terms Chicago is a smaller New York at half the price but is easily the only contender to offer a semblance of being in a skyscraper mega-city and all the pre-war urban landscapes of a certain scale and aesthetic that comes with being that.

Second to Miami, Chicago also has the next largest Hispanic population (although mostly Mexican, some Puerto Ricans), assuming bilingual in Spanish as the second language. Reasonable COL too. Although it’s the coldest so that is not for everyone.
Not sure about the dating thing but I'd pick Chicago for sure.
DC has the worst reputation for dating, although I think some of it is overblown. But it is very transient, and many people are focused on their career and then leave. I think it's just dependent on what social circle you're in, and not necessarily worse than anywhere else.
That said, Chicago is a great place for dating. The downtown core is great in terms of nightlife and dating. The core of Chicago is very diverse, but when you spread outside the core, Chicago is somewhat segregated by neighborhood, so dating diverse groups could be more challenging outside of the downtown core.
Not sure about dating for Miami.
DC has a lot of good nightlife for dating. Lots of happy hours, restaurants, night spots.
