IKEA requires a minimum of 2 million people within a 40-60 mile radius of a new location.

Although none of these metros meet the requirements yet, which do you think will first and land an IKEA?

I bet Indy has 2 million within 40-60 miles. In fact I am sure it does! Who gets the Ikea? Who knows!

Market Areas That Might Stand a Chance (but not now)
  • Indianapolis, IN – Indianapolis has a current metro area of about 1.7 million. It’s only about 2 hours from the store in West Chester, OH, and in my opinion is not high up on the list of possibilities for an IKEA store. Maybe in 8-10 years?

I voted Raleigh because it's already the largest of the four and because of how fast their metro is growing.

Raleigh with all the colleges I'm surprised it doesn't have one already.

Don't see the fascination with ikea. You could probably get better furniture at your local bigbox super market.

Ikea has bottom of the line furniture at top of the line prices.

Not really sure why an IKEA opening in a metro area is significant, lol. Is it some sort of bizarre rite of passage? Do only the cool metros have IKEAS? I feel that to really be considered cool, you'd have to have at least TWO IKEAS. Maybe that's my pseudo-elitism coming through though :O

Lol. Regardless, I could see Indy getting one. Hamilton County has exploded in population. I wouldn't be surprised to see an IKEA pop up in the next 5-10 years. I know nothing about the other contenders though, so I abstained from voting.

Ikea is cool if you're just decorating an apartment & move around a lot where stuff can get broken & easily replaced. A permanent home that adds value? Never.
