Anyone watching preacher on tv? Takes place in Texas. There are lots of Mexican Americans on the show talking with southern accents. And going to those baptist churches too. That gave me a southern vibe far more than anything in south Florida does.

You are talking about paid actors, right? And the show does not take place in South Texas.

It sure doesn't take place in east Texas. Just saying, those Hispanics came off as pretty southern. I don't know if the Hispanics in south Texas are like that. If they are, the poll results make a lot more sense.

The ones around Corpus Christi are. My mom is from there, and she has a southern accent, as do most of her siblings. Most of them are also baptist.

Again, we are talking about a television show with actors.

The poll results are based on nothing more than familiarity with South Florida and lack of familiarity with South Texas. People are applying nothing but stereotypes.

Maybe you're right, but the map I posted earlier in the thread shows that Catholicism is the predominant religion in the area.

Heck, the city itself is named after a Catholic feast day.

True but I was saying unless you count SA, that part of South Texas and rural South Texas a lot of the older people have full-blown southern accents.

I feel Miami is more Southern. But as others have said, cities in South Texas like Corpus Christi do tend to have a Southern vibe, with many Mexican-Americans with Southern accents and what not. South Padre, and most of the Texas Barrier Islands are pretty Southern in feeling, and aren't much different than the other beach towns in the gulf along the Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama coast. The RGV is far from Southern, but the further east you go in South Texas(closer to the coast) the more Southern it gets.

That's mostly due to recent immigration and the tendency to identify as catholic among Tejanos. Heck, I didn't even know my grandfather was catholic until he died. Him, and a lot of other people in that region, are sometimes only catholic in name, not practice.
